HPE Proliant DL560 Gen10: Specs and Rack Compatibility

The HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 is a half-chassis version of the 4U DL8510 Gen10 that retains the same processing capability. It can handle mission-critical tasks and was built for power users thanks to its four Intel XEON Scalable CPUs. 

Critics were impressed with its performance versus rivals, especially since it was the first 2U, four-scalable processor server to hit the market. It has a great potential for growth, which should keep consumers happy for a long time. 

The HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 System is a powerful, scalable, and reliable four-socket (4S) server housed in a compact 2U chassis. The HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 Server supports the latest Intel® Xeon® Scalable CPUs, enabling increased processing power, up to 6 TB of faster memory, up to eight PCIe 3.0 slots of IO, and the intelligence and convenience of automated administration with HPE OneView and HPE iLO 5.

Features that are typically expected to exist

HPE 1600W Platinum Hot-Plug Low-Halogen Power-Supply-Kit Flex-Slot. Hot plug, no tools required, installation of HPE Flex Slot (Flex Slot) Power Supplies into HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers is made possible by a standardized electrical and physical design shared by all HPE Flex Slot PSUs. Users are able to "right-size" a power supply for certain hardware platforms with the help of Flex Slot supplies, which are certified for high-efficiency operation and provide different power output choices. This ability to change helps reduce power waste, lower total energy costs, and keeps power capacity from getting "stuck" in the data center.

HPE Server Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)/Legacy ROM

The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is an industry standard that allows for a more secure setup and easier management of your server. With a UEFI Class 2 implementation, HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers may switch between UEFI Mode (the default) and Legacy BIOS Mode.

Trusted platform module

The system's health is constantly being monitored by the Trusted Platform Module (TPM), a dedicated processor. A TPM is a non-active component that requires updates and can't restrict anything other than its own memory access. It also allows for the generation and manipulation of RSA public-private key pairs, among other cryptographic processes.

A code running on the central processing unit (CPU) performs the first verification of signatures; this code may be intercepted and altered. Using the correct parameters sent to the TPM, it is feasible to simulate a "properly" booted machine. HPE is compatible with TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 devices. All Gen10 servers running Linux or Windows Server 2016 may use the TPM 2.0 device. The HPE ProLiant Gen9 and Gen10 server families support both TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0. The Gen9 and earlier server versions are incompatible with certain TPM modules. Once the TPM module is in place, it can't be taken out or changed for another TPM device.

HPE's Trusted Silicon Foundation

HPE's Silcon Root of Trust verifies the silicon for the unchangeable fingerprint that confirms all firmware code as authentic and uncompromised whenever a server is powered on and the iLO system comes to life. Since more than a million pieces of firmware code are run before the system software starts up, it is essential to make sure that all vital firmware on servers is virus-free.

All systems with an iLO5 chip come with a Silicon Root of Trust as part of the iLO5 Standard. This consists of Synergy Compute Modules, C-Class Blades, ML/DL, Apollo, and ML/DL. Both the HPE Cloudline and HPE Microserver lack silicon root of trust since they do not use an iLO5 silicon chip. The HP ProLiant Gen9, Gen8, and Gen7 servers don't support this technology, so they can't be updated to support the silicon root of trust.

Before the iLO 5 firmware code is retrieved and run, it is verified by the silicon. The silicon can identify malicious or compromised code in the iLO 5 firmware if the infected code does not match the hash burnt into the silicon. The iLO 5 then verifies the integrity of the UEFI, CPLD, IE, and ME firmware installed on the server. The UEFI then checks the link with the OS, securing the whole chain to the silicon with a single root.

HPE's new technology performs run-time firmware validation, which verifies the stored firmware of the server while it is running. If malicious code or malware is ever introduced into any of the essential firmware.

Features that are typically expected to exist

After a breach has been detected in the firmware of a client's HPE server, the client may safely and immediately restore the firmware to a prior, known-good state. HPE's new license, HPE iLO Advanced Premium Security Edition, gives this capability.

Warranty

There is a global limited warranty on this device, and it is maintained by HPE Services and a global network of HPE Authorized Channel Partners dealers. Three years from the purchase date, you may get free diagnostic assistance and hardware repairs. There is a 90-day grace period after purchase during which you may get help with the programme and initial setup. HPE Pointnext's operational services and bespoke service agreements may be used to supplement the warranty coverage already provided.

Next business day onsite service is included in the 3-year parts and labor and 3-year on-site server warranty. Customer Self-Repair (CSR) components may be used for warranty service. Two types of materials make up these components: 1) All necessary CSR components must be easily interchangeable. Customers who refuse to replace a mandatory CSR component will be charged for the associated travel and labor costs; 2) CSR components that are considered "optional" will not incur the same travel and labor costs but may be more complicated to replace. Hewlett Packard Enterprise will replace any optional CSR parts at no extra cost if a customer asks them to.
